Images from A Hot August Night at Wormont

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Following the NY Holstein Picnic was the Hot August Night at Wormont Sale. The sale, which averaged $5,141.05, was hosted by the Worden Family and managed by The Cattle Exhchange.

Attendees take a look at the sale animals beforehand. Cattle were housed in one of three bright and spacious “Cover-All” barns at Wormont Dairy.

The sale line-up including a large number of quality cows.

The picnic and sale provided time for friends like John Sullivan and John Emerling to catch up.

Merry Rama adds some final touches to the sale ring before the start.

Jason Pullis and Horace Backus go over catalog updates before the sale. This was Jason’s first sale as a Cattle Exchange employee.

Before the start of the sale, Patsy Gifford, New York Holstein Association Executive Secretary, presented Jason Pullis with an ideal Holstein cow for his time with the Association as Editor of the NY Holstein News.

When the dust had settled and the sun had set, the high seller of the night was Lot 1 - Clear-Echo Shttle 1373 at $18,000. She is pictured here with sale staff.

New York Holstein Breeders Gather for Some Summer-time Fun!

Monday, August 11th, 2008

The New York Holstein Picnic was held Saturday at Wormont Dairy in Cassville, NY. Hosts Chuck & Vanessa Worden and Family were gracious hosts of the annual event. The large crowd enjoyed a delicious meal of pork barbecue and ribs topped off with ice cream handed out by the NY State Dairy Princess and her court. There was volleyball and face painting for the kids, while adults enjoyed viewing the new facilities and catching up with friends from around the state.

Randy & Lynette Inman of Mar-Bil Farm, now in Virginia, came back to NY to visit with old friends, like Greg & Debbie Coyne.

Face painting was just one of the activities Juniors could participate in!

Holstein USA’s Tom Lawlor spoke about genomic testing of Holstein cattle.

A view of the boxstall barn at Wormont Dairy.

A highlight of the boxstall barn was Pamtom Twinkie (EX-94 a daughter of Twinkie (EX-97) herself!

A Redman daughter of Derrwyn Miss Special (EX-94)

There are three different types of housing at Womont Dairy: boxstall, sand bedded free stalls, and this bedded pack barn.

The recently completed calf barn was bright & breezy!

The Wordens also have a herd of Jerseys cows.

A gorgeous summer day was on tap as a nice crowd attended the sale. The sale cattle and the sale ring were conveniently located in the same building.

Staneks
Sale hosts - the Stanek family: Todd, Tyler, Cade and Mary along with sale manager Ed Fellers.

Check
A unique aspect of the annual Summer Event Sale is that each year Burton-Fellers Sales, Inc. and the sale host donate funds from the sale to specific charities. Ed and Dallas chose Ben’s Bells Project which helps create a culture of kindness in our communities and beyond. The Stanek family chose Tomorrow’s Hope Walk Fest, which raises dollars to support health care recipients in southeastern Wisconsin who provide research, education and support services for those touched by life-limiting illness. Here, Todd Stanek presents a check to Paul Trapp for Tomorrow’s Hope Walk Fest. For more on each of these charities, see www.bensbells.org and www.tomorrowshope.org.

Happy Birthday All-World Kathleen!

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Yesterday was the Summer Event Sale hosted by Our-Favorite Holsteins, the Todd & Mary Stanek Family in Fall Creek, WI. But it was also Holstein World staffer Kathleen O’Keefe’s Birthday!! Kathleen was the reporter at the sale - a natural choice as she is a WI resident and good friends with many of the breeders in the state. And as it turns out, they are good friends with her too! Kathleen was treated to a birthday cake that said:

Happy Birthday All World Kathleen

It was decorated with, of course, Holstein cow figurines set amongst the green and sand trap of a golf course - one of Kathleen’s, and her Holstein friends, favorite past times. Melissa Hart of MI just happened to be around when the cake was presented and snapped a couple shots to share with us. Thanks, Melissa, and Happy Birthday Kathleen!!
