Intermediate Champion: Scenic-Edge Joyful-Red-ET, Stephanie Aves

Res. Intermediate Champion: John-Lu Talent Regina-Red, John & Luke Coblentz

HM Intermediate Champion: Blaze-N-Sun Sunny-Red-ET, Dale & Deanna Bendig and Rebecca Boop

Judge Johnson’s comments: I pulled out four cows that I really stand out. I pulled out my Jr. 2-year-old, a cow with a lovely udder; my Sr. 2-year-old, an extreme cow with length, power and yet enough dairyness throughout; and my two Sr. 3-year-olds who both exhibit extreme dairyness. Today, I’m going with my Sr. 2-year-old. What a beautiful cow with extreme mass, style and balance and what a great mammary system. It’s hard to find any holes in her. And following her will be my Jr. 2-year-old for Reserve. She’s just a little more snug in the udder attachments to place over the winning Sr. 3. Thank you and what a great way to start off the cow show!

Judge Johnson’s comments: Before we get any further in our junior champion selection today, let’s give our red & white exhibitors a round of applause. The spring calf class started out with a bang, and it hasn’t let up yet! I pulled out three heifers today, my spring calf, the summer yearling and the junior yearling, all who show tremendous depth. For my junior champion, I’m going with the junior yearling. To me, she shows so much more length, balance, style and a little more maturity today than my lovely spring calf. I also like the way she handles herself on her hind legs. For reserve, I am going with this beautiful spring calf over the summer yearling. She’s more balanced, nicer through the shoulder, a little deeper in that rear rib and little more wedgey over the top than our beautifully balanced summer yearling.

Eastern Elite excitement firing up

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

When you walk through the barns at Harrisburg this week, you’ll find a very excited sales staff getting ready for tomorrow night’s Eastern Elite Sale at the All-American. Pennsylvania Holstein’s David Lentz says this is, by far, the strongest lineup of sale cattle they’ve had in many years! From stylish young calves, to animals loaded with numbers and contract potential, tomorrow night’s sale is one you’ll want to attend! Here are a few candids of the lineup from our walk through on Tuesday afternoon. You can find the complete catalog online at www.holsteinworld.com and be sure to check the daily news for sales updates on Wednesday morning. (we would like to have taken more – but it was chore time!)
