Judge’s reasons:  Ladies & gentleman – I love to judge cows, and I’ve pulled out the kinds of cows I like.  The ones that have super udders.  They’re well attached, high, wide and have beautiful style.  It’s a close placing today, but I’m going with my winning Sr. 3-year-old.  She’s a just a little bit longer in the frame, has a little more angularity and a little more maturity for me today over this beautifully stylish Jr. 2-year-old.  What a great pair of cows for Intermediate Champion!

California Spring Show Junior Champions

Junior Champion of the Junior Show

Res. Junior Champion: Tyrbach Dundee Prospera-ET, 1st senior yearling, Nisa Gallichio & Brittany Dickerhoof

Junior Champion:K-Giltex Advnt Dream-Red-ET, 1st winter yearling, Robert Teixeira & Cranehill Genetics
Res. Junior Champion: Whitney Oaks Jedster 8432, 1st spring yearling, Whitney Oaks

Judge’s reasons:
It’s been a tremendous heifer show – lots of nice heifers here. I’ve pulled out a few that to me, stand out from the rest. They spell quality, length, angularity, functional correctness, style, balance and they walk nicely on their feet & legs. They also show tremendous balance of fore & rear rib. The true test will be when they have calves and I could give 3 or 4 sets of reasons on how to place them differently. I pulled out this fall calf and I love her size, length, angularity – she’s just a nice; I pulled out the spring yearling – you’ve got to be impressed by her depth of rib, angularity, openness, silkiness, and she’s big for her size; I pulled out the heifer champion of the junior show – she’s not as big, but very correct; and I pulled out the winter yearling, what a balanced heifer and she’s got a little more power, a little more width.

It’s extremely close – but this red heifer is the best today. She’ll go over the black spring yearling. I like how she carries her front end a little nicer, has a little more power through the front end, a little more balance, but boy that black heifer is so silky and clean. Congratulations to all exhibitors!

More scenes! And Happy 61st birthday to Larry Gerber!!
