Youth Workshop in New York
Kayla Currie reports it was a successful day at the Annual Cortland County Dairy Rodeo this past weekend. Thirty-two enhusiastic young 4-Hers participated in a calf showing workshop held in Cortland, NY. There were no tears, very few calves let loose, a lot of learning & a ton of smiles! This year, youth from both Cortland and Onondaga Counties came to the event. Three local dairies provided 3-4 month old calves (who have never been lead before!) for the kids to work with. The kids have to wash, clip, feed, and teach their animal to lead for the showmanship class, held later that day. There were older 4-H kids, volunteers, and parents to provide help and guidence throughout the day. Various demonstrations were also held to teach these young kids about all the different aspects of showing and handling a calf.
