Latest update on Indiana dairy producer Heath Penick

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Many of you remember the recent story about Heath Penick falling from a 60-foot silo. We thought we’d keep you up to date on his progress and ask for your continued support and prayers for the entire Penick family. It’s going to be a long journey for them, but it sounds like things are going in the right direction.

Thanks to Sara Long for keeping us updated!

Last Tuesday, Heath had surgery on his leg and arm and was doing very well. The next day, doctors let him rest in preparation for a series of surgeries on his face and feet. On Tuesday of this week, he had surgery done on his feet and heels, with a scheduled 5-6 hour surgery today to work on his face. Evidently all the bones in his face were broken, so surgeons need to put in quite a few plates and have the assistance of an oral surgeon to realign things in his mouth.

Update on Heath

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

GOOD NEWS this morning regarding Heath Penick. According to Amber Price, Heath’s coma sedation was lowered and he responded to nurses’s requests to squeeze their hand. It’s still a long road to complete recovery, but so far, so good. Clearly the overwhelming industry support that is surrounding him is working!

Indiana dairy producer in need of support

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Heath Penick, a dairy producer from Orland, Indiana, didn’t realize that his trip to World Dairy Expo would be the last few days of “normal” life for a while. Unfortunately, Heath fell about 60 feet from a silo after returning home and is in critical condition in the hospital. All reports so far confirm that he’s a fighter and it’s a miracle he’s still alive! But, while his progress is slow, it’s steady and improving. Please keep Heath and the entire Penick family in your prayers. Doctors will be bringing him out of his drug-induced coma today, but he has been breathing on his own and vitals are stable. Thanks to Sara Long and Amber Price for the updates.
