Prime Time VII Sale Highlights!

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

The annual Wednesday night stop for many during Expo Week is in Edgerton, WI for the Prime Time Sale at Sherona Hill and last night saw the seventh edition take place at the farm in Edgerton, WI. Mike & Sheryl Deaver host and co-manage the sale every year along with Rick & Paula Bovre of the Great Northern. The sale averaged $4,055 on 44 full lots.

Wade Yardley made the trip out from Utah and studied the sale lineup very carefully!

It was a beautiful afternoon and evening for the sale and many made the half-hour drive from Madison south to Edgerton.

High seller on the sale was Lot 10 – Farnear Broc Beyonce-ET – a 4/10 Aftershock out of the #1 PTAT cow, Regancrest G Brocade-ET (EX-92 DOM) who is one of the Goldwyn daughters of Regancrest-PR Barbie-ET (EX-92 GMD DOM). Consigned Tom & Rick Simon of Farley, IA, Beyonce was purchased by Maple Isle Holsteins of Ireland for $12,500.

Second high seller at $10,000 was Lot 3, the consignment of John & Connor Erbsen and Mike & Sheryl Deaver – buyer’s choice of two 4/10 Mr Burns heifers out of Ms Delicious Apple-Red, a just fresh Talent daughter of KHW Regiment Apple-Red (EX-94), the ever-popular red & white beauty. Dean & Diana Malcolm of Blue Chip Genetics in Australia made the final bid for the privelege of choosing between the two.

The International Holstein Junior Show and the International Ayrshire Show were completed today as well as the heifer classes for the Central National Jersey Show. University of Wisconsin Madison earns top honors in the Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest

Yesterday, September 27th, twenty teams competed for the coveted honor of being named the 1st place National Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Team. This year’s contest was one of the highest scoring contests in history with all contestants doing extremely well. The participants judged 12 classes with well qualified cattle from all seven dairy breeds. Besides placing scores, the participants were scored on oral reasons from six classes.

During an awards breakfast this morning, the team from UW-Madison earned top honors. Team members were Kelly Sime, Brian Coyne, Chelsea Holschbach and Ben Sarbacker. They were coached by Dr. Ted Halbach and Brian Kelroy. Brian Coyne also placed 1st overall and was recognized as having the highest total points in history! He scored 876 points out of 900 possible points! His teammate Chelsea Holschbach earned 2nd place honors with a score of 865 points. Holschbach and Coyne also placed 1st and 2nd in reasons, respectively.

The team from University of Minnesota has a lot to be proud of as well. The team consisting of four girls: Megan Herberg, Caitlin Kasper, Mikayla Krause and Abby Udermann won 1st place team in oral reasons. The team was coached by Dr. Les Hansen. Indvidually overall Herberg placed 3rd, Kasper 4th and Udermann 7th.
