The Utah Holstein Breeders held their Annual Meeting in conjunction with the Utah Dairy Council Convention in St. George, UT on Wednesday, March 7th. Outgoing President Ted Papageorge called the meeting to order and the group approved last year’s minutes and financial report.
National Vice President Glen Brown gave the Holstein USA report and touched on a variety of topics including a lengthy discussion of Dairy Data Alliance and the future of proof information. Director Bill Wright from Utah is up for re-election on the National Board and has indicated he will be running for a second term. Holstein USA Regional Representative Charlie Schiller gave a brief presentation on about AgriTech Analytics and the programs it offers to dairymen.
Elections took place for the three director seats that were open and new directors are: Cory Gillins, Mark England and Ben Conrad.
The Utah State Show will be held in Ogden on May 11th with Nathan Thomas serving as judge. The junior show will take place the next day and will be judged by John Andersen. That will be followed the next week by the Western National Spring Show on May 17th-18th in Richmond where Justin Burdette will officiate. The show, as for the past several years, will be covered online by Holstein World. New this year is the webcast and real time online bidding for the Western National Heritage Sale. Both the state show and Western Spring National will have officially sanctioned Red & White shows and winners will be eligible to enter the RWDCA All-American contest.
Justin Jenson gave the junior report. The Utah Junior State Show and Sale will be held on July 10-11 in Heber City at the new fairgrounds. He thanked the parents and sponsors for supporting the juniors on their yearly trip to the National Convention.
The UT State Fair Junior Show will be on September 8th, the open show on September 10th and the fall sale will be held on September 14th with Kent Buttars serving as sale chairman.
The longest running Holstein show held in one location that is not affiliated with a state fair takes place in Richmond, UT each spring and in 2015, the Richmond B&W Days will celebrate 100 years of honoring the dairy industry in the Cache Valley. The Utah breeders are looking to make this quite an event and are also looking for old photos and memorabilia from Richmond/Western National Spring Shows over the years.
