Picturesque Garrett County was the site for this year’s Maryland State Holstein Sale held on July 14, 2012. The sale was sponsored by the Maryland Holstein Association and led by MD-Hillbrook Sale Management. “Bent Maust served as the county sale chairman and was a tremendous help. We could not have asked for a better host county, everyone pitched in to help out,” reports Chris Hill, sale manger. A testament to everyone’s hard work was the average of $4,832 on 78 full lots.

MD State Sale High Seller
Leading the way at $29,000 was Lot 2 the consignment of Maryland breeders Mike and Anita Haines. This flush age red polled Colt P sold with bull and embryo contracts and is among the highest red polled GTPI heifers in the world. She makes her new home in Iowa with San-Dan Holsteins.

MD State Sale 2nd High
Following close behind was Lot 4 at $25,000. This March 2012 Grafeeti heifer sold with a GTPI of +2394 to Glen-Toctin Farm of Jefferson Maryland. She was consigned by My Ladys Manor Farm.

Third high was a 1st choice Lithium x Ladys Manor S Dahlia ET with a built in PA of +2451 GTPI. Elite Dairy Genomics was the consignor and My Ladys Manor Farm paid $23,200 to claim the March 2013 female.

Sale attendees were treated to a complimentary pancake and sausage breakfast prior to the sale. This generous meal was sponsored by the Maryland Holstein Association.

Cattle sold to nine states with 33 head remaining in Maryland.
