A snapshot visit in “Western NY”

On recent farm visits, one theme dominated. Enthusiasm and a true love of their profession.

You only get one chance to make a first impression and what you see when driving by Spring Hope, gives you a view of a dairy that pays attention to detail. You will find that carried on throughout this well run facility. Great record keeping and accountability by employees is very evident.

The next phase of the growth at Black Brook Farm of Shortsville, NY. Each visit revealed a different method to reach goals. Here the Adams’ had a well ran tie stall barn and now are on to the third addition to their free stall facility. Each addition has allowed the Adams’ to adjust things they would like to change after “test driving” the previous structure.

Still going strong! Kerry’s father, Guy Lee Crowell is 90 years young and has a long history with the register Holstein cow. Guy Lee’s keeping the yards in shape takes one chore off Hal and Kerry’s plate.

Annetta & Kevin Herrington of Kevetta Farms, Dannsville, NY. Their herd is a great mix of good framed Holsteins and Jersey’s-recognizable pedigrees and high genomics.

It must be better on the top of the bale!

Your vist to any and all of these herds would be welcomed and all have a different “story” of how they have reached this point.
