‘Bug’ reigns supreme at DE State Fair, 5 years in a row

It is often said that repeating as a champion is the hardest thing to do in professional sports.  I imagine anyone who has owned cows would find that statement to be very fitting in the cattle business as well.  A lot of things have to go right to keep an individual at the top of their game – good care, smart decisions and a lot of hard work.  Well for the owners of Emervest Senzas Lilybug EX-94, it wasn’t just a repeat that they were celebrating last week as ‘Bug’ added another Delaware State Fair Supreme Champion banner to her resume, it was a ‘5-peat.’  That’s right; it’s been 5 years since another cow has won the title of Supreme Champion at the Delaware State Fair in Harrington, DE, a feat that has brought much happiness to both her breeders and owners.

Bug was bred by Lee Emerson of Emerson Farms in Middletown, DE and Cheryl Warren Vest of Clayton, DE.  She is now owned by Donovan Hollingsworth, Scott Youse and Kenley Cook of Denton, MD.  Bug is no stranger to the winner’s circle having also won Grand Champion honors at Maryland State Fair the past two years.  In 2012 she capped off the year placing 3rd at the International Jersey Show at World Dairy Expo in Madison, WI, earning her High Honorable Mention ABA All-American Aged Cow.  Bug also garnered an ABA All-American nomination as a 5 Year-Old in 2011.  Bug, a Dauiseoir daughter of Pleasant Nook Prize La Sanza EX-90, has daughters by Verbatim and Comerica that won the Fall Calf and Summer Yearling classes, respectively.  Her Verbatim daughter went on to be named Junior Champion of the show.

The owners of Bug would like to give a, “special thanks to all the people who have helped get her ready over the past 5 years at Delaware, and also to her cheering section over the years.”  Owners Donovan Hollingsworth and Scott Youse also give special thanks to the Cook family for the opportunity to own and work with “the Bug.”

Congratulations to Bug and her owners on this impressive accomplishment!
