Looking Back at National Convention - The Golf Outing!

July 13th, 2008

Practice green0001
Before the start! Plenty of serious golfers made use of the practice green at Baraboo County Club, site of the 2008 National Convention Golf Outing. Held on Tuesday, June 24th and organized by club member Mike Snyder, it was a picture perfect Wisconsin summer day.

Baraboo Country Club0001
Baraboo Country Club was an elegant course with plenty of elevation changes and water running throughout. The course had experienced significant flooding only two weeks before the Convention and remnants of the damage - including washed out bridges - remained, but the staff had done a remarkable job getting the course in great condition again.

Lunch0001
A well-deserved lunch after the outing for the large number of participating golfers.

Hole Prize Winners0001
Hole prize winners L to R: Marvin Nunes - Hole #2 Closest to fairway flag on drive and Hole #7 Closest to pin on tee shot; Hank Van Exel - Hole #4 Closest to pin on tee shot; Mike Carey - Hole #15 Longest putt; Joel Hastings - Hole #1 Closest to pin on tee shot; Gary Griffin - Hole #9 Longest drive in fairway, Hole #13 Closest 2nd shot and Hole #18 Straightest drive; Kathleen O’Keefe - Hole #11 Longest putt; Jack Turcott - Hole #10 Closest to pin on tee shot and Hole #12 - Longest drive in fairway (seniors age 55+); Nick Schuster - Hole #6 Longest putt.

The Winners0001
The Winners! The All-Star Team of Hank Van Exel, Ken Elliott, Keith Stump and Gary Griffin.

2nd Place0001
2nd place (tied for 1st but lost the tiebreaker) - Norm Magnuson, Bud Stilling, Bob Stilling and Jack Turcott.

The Losers0001
And the foursome that obviously does not spend their afternoons on the golf course…the team with the highest score and their special prize - Wheaties! Paul Buhr, Todd Stanek, Kathleen O’Keefe and Marty Kinyon.

MN Holstein Field Day with Megan Herberg

July 9th, 2008

Tuesday, July 8th was the day for the 2008 Minnesota Holstein Field Day. Hosted by the Greg & Dawn Johnson Family, MN Holstein members traveled to their farm near Pelican Rapids to check out their new facilities, see the 2007 Res. Megan did a great job taking pictures and has put together some info to accompany them for you to enjoy!

Brigeen Blast Roadtrip - Day 1

July 4th, 2008

It’s always great traveling to New England and this July 4th weekend was no exception. If you’ve never been to this part of the country, you are missing one of the most beautiful areas on earth. I left the World offices yesterday and traveled to Lylehaven last night. Not only did Sue Brown and I discuss the 2009 Lure of Lylehaven Sale, but we saw fireworks in the state’s capital of Montpelier. This morning, I traveled east and met up with my friend Chris Lang and two of his Springhill employees, brothers Danny and Tommy P. Enjoy the journey!

Brigeen 001

Brigeen 002

One of the most charming things about New England is the variety of General Stores you’ll find in lots of towns.

Brigeen 003

The weather was perfect on July 4th for kayaking and outdoor parties.

Brigeen 006

Conant Acres in Canton was our first stop. Duane and Betty Conant, and their daughter Debbie and son-in-law Steve operate the 300 acre farm. They just scored on a limited classification this week and highlighting the day were a number of exciting young cows. In fact, of the 16 first-score 2-year-olds who were classified, 12 were Very Good, 2 were too fresh to score and 2 were Good Plus.

Another beautiful look at the scenery out and about in western Maine.

Brigeen 043

And yet another shot of beautiful scenery - this scenery is inside though and is the 89 point Givenchy daughter who sells tomorrow as Lot 21. She’s definitely one of the barn stars as people come in and look to find her in the lineup!

Brigeen 044

Brigeen 052

The Briggs, Bullard and McCauley families have gone all out with decorations and hospitality!

Brigeen 060

Sisters and friends! Betsy (Briggs) Bullard and Kate (Briggs) Chapman. Betsy and her husband Bill are partners in Brigeen Farms, while Kate is the California Holstein Association Business Manager.

Brigeen 056

Sarah Zonneveld and Renee McCauley were running non-stop making sure every detail was taken care of.

Brigeen 066

After a visit to see the sale lineup, our traveling caravan drove 1/2 southeast to New Gloucester and Pineland Farms. We were graciously toured around by Seth Carpenter and his wife, as well as new hire Tim Putnam.

Brigeen 067

A beautiful, long, deep Morty.

Brigeen 070

An Outside daughter completing several generations of EX Trinas!

Brigeen 072

Stay tuned for official classification news from these tremendous Maine herds early next week, and check back later this weekend for more sale information. The Brigeen Blast catalog can be found online at www.holsteinworld.com and starts promptly at 11:00am tomorrow morning. With a stellar lineup, it’s one sale you won’t want to miss!
